About Aeroflot
Russian Airlines" (RTS: AFLT) is the largest Russian airline. It is based in 1923. The founder of the JOINT STOCK COMPANY is the Government of the Russian Federation so that 51% of shares belong to state and 49% - to work collectives of the airline and to other legal persons. In 1991, after the collapse of the Soviet Union, the airline became the successor to the name Aeroflot and the trademark of the former Soviet air international carrier. In 2000, the annual stockholders meeting changed the name of the company to JSC "Aeroflot - Russian Airlines", which corresponds better to the status and profile of Russia's national airline company. Aeroflot enters into the list of 25 world leading airlines according to the financial indices (by ATW version). Aeroflot controls about 11% of home and 39% of international market for air transportation of Russia. In 2006 year the airline transported 7 million 290 thousand passengers and 145.3 thousand tons of mail and freights. The company performed 22 billion 406 million passenger-kilometers and 2 billion 885 million tonne-kilometers. The occupation ratio of passenger seats in 2006 amounted in general to 70.1%, the ratio of the revenue load was 57.7%. In comparison with the level of 2005 the volume of works increased by all the indexes except for transportation of freights and amounted to: 108.7% (+583.7 thousand passengers) by passenger transportation, 108.0% (+1655.8 million passenger-kilometers) by passenger turnover, 105.4% (+148.6 million tonne-kilometers) by tonne-kilometers, 102.5% (+ 112.0 tons) by transportation of mail, 99.7% (-388.1 tons) by transportation of freights. The flying time in comparison with the level of 2005 increased by 6.5% on passenger aircrafts and decreased by 5.8% on freight aircrafts. The flying time of the fleet in general increased by 5.8% (+14930 hours). Preliminary financial and economic results of operational activities for 2006 reveal the increase of income by 18.5% in dollar terms and considerable growth of income in comparison with the last year.
Fleet
Aeroflot’s fleet consists of 90 aircraft. In 2009 the company is planning to receive the total of 24 brand-new modern planes. In 2007, Aeroflot signed multi-billion US dollar deals to buy 22 Airbus A350 jets and 22 Boeing B787 Dreamliners, with deliveries in both cases to start since 2014. In 2008, Aeroflot started receiving Airbus A330 aircraft which will dramatically expand the airline’s long-haul capabilities and standard of service. The company has also contracted the new-generation Russian-built Sukhoi SuperJet-100s (Aeroflot has 30 SSJ regional jets on order and intends to acquire 20 more).
