On Ground Services

Every passenger has a free baggage allowance of 20 kg. This free baggage allowance also applies to children and infants. If you have a Top Bonus Card Silver or Gold, you can take bulky sports equipment weighing up to 30 kg with you at not extra cost. You also have a greater baggage allowance – an extra 10 kg.

For health and safety reasons no item of checked-in baggage on flights from and to UK may weigh more than 32 kg, irrespective of the free baggage allowance.

For reasons of safety as well as convenience, each passenger is only allowed to take one item of hand luggage into the cabin. The cabin baggage must not weigh more than 6 kg (8 kg for laptops) and must not exceed the measurements of 55 cm x 40 cm x 20 cm.

In Flight Meals

Air Berlin offers a gourmet menu – freshly prepared onboard – on all Air Berlin flights with a minimum flying time of 90 minutes and a maximum flying time of 4 hours. A standard snack will still be included in the fare, and the additional menus cost between 5 and 11 euros. The gourmet menus as well as our generous breakfast vary depending on the time of day or season and contain everything that lovers of good food might wish for. On flights with a flying time of over 4 hours, as well as on flights to Agadir and Funchal, you have a choice of two menus. Drinks from our onboard bar will of course be served as well.

Please note that the number of gourmet menus carried on each flight is limited. As a result, individual menus may well be sold out and we apologise if that is the case.

Sansibar is the name of one of the most famous restaurants on the island of Sylt. Prospective diners usually have to reserve a table weeks in advance. The wine from Sansibar is also in great demand throughout Germany. The fact is that this restaurant, nestling in the dunes, also happens to be one of the best wine merchants in the country. Sansibar wine is available on board Air Berlin flights as well: a flawless Weissburgunder (Pinot Blanc) and a Cuvée, a blend of two red grape varieties. They are both produced by Markus Schneider, a top vintner from the Pfalz (Palatinate) region.

The hot on-top meals are now also served under the flag of Sansibar. The restaurant’s hosts Herbert Seckler and Michael Hamann are already busy creating the delicacies that our flight attendants will be serving on board our flights.

Service

Infants under two are not entitled to their own seat, but have to sit on the lap of the person accompanying them. That is why any person accompanying an infant may only fly with one infant. For infants under 12 months you can reserve a cot in the first row, free of charge, on many routes by calling the Service Centre. Only one infant is allowed per row of seats.

Prams, buggies and child seats that are not approved for use in aircraft must be checked in at the check-in desk. However, no extra charge is made for such items. Seat reservations for families with infants are free of charge.

Please note that children have to be identified at the check-in desk just like adults (e.g. own passport, on parents’ passport). Top of page

You can book online up to two hours before the plane’s scheduled departure. If you book up until 00.00 h on the day before departure, you may be able to use the AB-TIX e-ticket facility. If you make a late booking, you can collect the ticket from the relevant Air Berlin airport desk before departure by quoting your booking reference and showing you passport of ID card.
