About Air New Zealand
Founded in 1940 as Tasman Empire Airways Limited, Air New Zealand is New Zealand's national airline. Air New Zealand directly serves 47 cities in 15 countries, including over 470 flights per day to 26 destinations within New Zealand.[1] In March 1999 Air New Zealand became a full member of the Star Alliance group. The Star Alliance, which includes Air Canada, ANA, Asiana Airlines, Austrian Airlines, bmi, LOT Polish Airlines, Lufthansa, Singapore Airlines, SAS, South African Airways, Spanair, SWISS, TAP Portugal, Thai Airways, United Airlines, US Airways and Varig is the world's largest global alliance and provides valuable network and loyalty benefits to customers.[2]
In recent years, Air New Zealand has implemented changes to its domestic, trans-Tasman & Pacific operations to improve services to both business and leisure travellers. Air New Zealand has introduced a new Express Class service on these routes to meet customer demand for lower fares, more choice of flights and simplified booking processes. A new fleet of Airbus A320 aircraft has progressively come into service since October 2003 on the airline’s short haul international routes.[3]
Frequent flyer program
Air New Zealand's loyalty programme, Airpoints, was relaunched in November 2004 as Airpoints Dollars. In a world first, customers can use their Airpoints Dollars to book any seat, at any time, on any Air New Zealand ticketed and operated flight, just like cash. [4]
Your Koru Club Membership gives you access to priority check-in facilities. As well as having access to dedicated check-in counters in Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch and Dunedin, Koru Club members can utilise Business Class check-in facilities when travelling on Air New Zealand operated flights departing from any other airport. As a Koru Club Member you are automatically entitled to complimentary membership of Airpoints - Air New Zealand's frequent flyer programme. You will be automatically enrolled in the Airpoints programme upon becoming a Koru Club Member. [5]
With Air New Zealand's participation in the Star Alliance network, achieving an elite tier status means that your tier status will be recognised in 160 countries when travelling on Air New Zealand or any of the Star Alliance airlines. Airpoints™ Gold Elite and Gold members will enjoy the special privileges of Star Alliance Gold status, while Airpoints Silver members will receive Star Alliance Silver status.[6]
