New longhaul route to Hyderabad
British Airways is to start flights from Heathrow to the Indian city of Hyderabad from October 27, 2008.
Hyderabad becomes the airline's sixth Indian destination joining Bangalore, Chennai, Delhi, Kolkata and Mumbai on its route network. There will be five flights each week on a Boeing 777 aircraft.
Robert Boyle, British Airways' commercial director, said: "India is our largest market outside North America and, with the Hyderabad route, we will fly there 48 times each week. This is up from 19 flights per week when the UK/India aviation market was liberalised in October 2005.
"Hyderabad has a fast growing economy based on IT, business process outsourcing and biotech industries and we believe that there will be a strong business demand for our flights which will be the only direct services between the city and the UK."
next-generation Club World
British Airways customers can now enjoy the next-generation Club World on 96 services a week between London Heathrow and New York JFK, as the installation of the cabin gathers pace across the airline's long-haul fleet. Engineers are now re-fitting up to three Boeing 747s every month with the new larger beds in business class and improved inflight entertainment systems across the plane.
Each Club World cabin on Boeing 747 services to JFK contains 70 luxurious beds that enable customers to work, sleep or relax in ultimate comfort. To date, 17 of the airline's 100 long-haul aircraft have been fitted with the new cabin. The installation programme is on track to be completed by the middle of next year. The new Club World beds are currently available on all flights between Heathrow and JFK operated by a Boeing 747, subject to change and aircraft availability.
BA and Qantas open new First Class lounge at Bangkok:
British Airways and Qantas have opened their new joint First Class lounge at Bangkok's new Suvarnabhumi airport. The two airlines opened in March their new Business Class lounge at the gateway. The new BA/QF First Class lounge is 40 per cent bigger than the facility it replaces at Bangkok's old Don Muang airport.
British Airways Summer 2008 network changes
British Airways' summer 2008 route network focuses on increased US flights from Heathrow following the EU-US "Open Skies " aviation treaty which comes in to effect in March 2008.
The airline's daily flight to Dallas Fort Worth and double daily flights to Houston will move from Gatwick to Heathrow airport from March 30, 2008. In addition, the airline will increase frequencies from Heathrow to New York JFK, Seattle and Washington and from Gatwick to Orlando.
In order to accommodate these changes, the airline is suspending flights between Heathrow and Detroit from March 30, 2008.
Flights to Algiers that currently operate from Gatwick will move to Heathrow to ensure that the airline's oil and gas destinations in North Africa and the US are still linked through the same airport. Warsaw flights will move from Heathrow to Gatwick. Both changes are effective from March 30, 2008.
In addition, there will be a new shorthaul route from Gatwick to Genoa in Italy starting on April 4, 2008 with daily flights.
The airline is also making a change to its network for the winter 2007 season. From October 28, 2007, passengers travelling from Heathrow to Harare with British Airways will be routed via Johannesburg and then on to Harare with our franchise partner Comair. Direct services to Harare from Heathrow will be suspended from the same date.
