About Cathay Pacific Airways
oneworld® founder member Cathay Pacific Airways is the flag carrier of Hong Kong and one of Asia's most highly regarded airlines. Established in 1946, Cathay Pacific's major shareholders are Hong Kong conglomerate Swire Pacific Group (with a 40 per cent stake), Beijing-based CITIC Pacific (holding 17.5 per cent, Air China (10 per cent) and China National Aviation Co Ltd (7.5 per cent). A regular winner of awards for customer service, it was named Airline of the Year 2006 by Air Transport World, OAG and (jointly) the Centre for Asia Pacific Aviation. Cathay Pacific Airways serves some 45 destinations in approaching 30 countries, in Asia-Pacific, Europe, North America and Africa. In December 2003, it resumed flights to mainland China, initially to Beijing and Xiamen. It aims soon to relaunch passenger services also to Shanghai. Cathay Pacific code-shares with oneworld partners American Airlines, British Airways, Iberia and Qantas. Beyond oneworld, it has bilateral relationships with Air China, Dragonair, Japan Airlines, Malaysia Airlines, Philippine Airlines, Aeroflot Russian International Airlines, Vietnam Airlines, and with the French rail operator SNCF.[1][2] Cathay Pacific and its Dragonair sister airline, which is also part of oneworld, were the first airlines in Asia to launch a voluntary carbon offset scheme for their passengers in December 2007. They are also the first airlines in the world to offer customers the option of using cash or frequent flyer miles to pay for their offsets. Cathay Pacific has a fleet of 123 aircraft (as of June 2009), with an average age of 10 years.[3] Since 2000, it has taken delivery of 69 new, more efficient aircraft, worth US$15.1 billion. It has outstanding orders for another 35 of the latest types, worth another US$9.4 billion, including 19 Boeing 777-300ERs, 10 Boeing 747-8Fs and six Airbus A330-300s [4]
