Garuda Indonesia began its first commercial services during the independence campaign under the name "Indonesian Airways" using a DC3 aircraft named "Seulawah" (Gold Mountain) donated by the people of Aceh. Since then, through "Seulawah" and several other arcrafts, Garuda has served the country and played vital role in Indonesian airline service.
