Iberia launches Madrid-Boston and heads for Washington and St Petersburg:

Iberia has launched its new Madrid-Boston route, with an initial five Airbus A340s a week. It joins American Airlines and British Airways in serving the New England gateway. Next month, oneworld's Spanish partner adds Washington DC to its network too, while it Europe it will open services to St Petersburg from 2 June, with two Airbus A319s a week from and to its Madrid hub.

Iberia to launch Algeria and Romania flights

Iberia has begun the new year with the announcement of two new destinations –Algiers and Bucharest. Regular flights between Madrid and the Algerian capital will begin on January 7th, in response to growing demand from Spanish businesses and Algerian residents in Spain.

There will be a return flight every Sunday and Thursday. The Sunday flights will leave Madrid at 18:15 h. and arrive in Algiers at 19:50 h., where they will take off again 20:45 h., arriving in Madrid at 22:10 h.

The Thursday flight will take off from Madrid-Barajas at 12:15 h. and arrive in Algiers at 13:50 h. local time. The return flight will leave the North African city at 14:50 and land in Madrid at 16:05 h.

The new flight will provide additional coverage of Africa by the Spanish airline, which already flies to eight African destinations: Casablanca, Tangier and Marrakech (Morocco), Cairo (Egypt), Malabo (Equatorial Guinea), Dakar (Senegal), Johannesburg (South Africa), and Lagos (Nigeria). Under code-sharing it also reaches Nairobi (Kenya), Cape Town, Durban and Port Elizabeth (South Africa), and Agadir, Fez, Oujda, Ouarzate and Laayoune (Morocco).

Flights to Bucharest, Romania, will begin on March 3rd, initially with a frequency of two per week (Saturdays and Sundays), primarily to serve the large Romanian community in Spain.

On weekend days the Bucharest flight will leave Madrid at 09.10 h. and arrive in the Romanian capital at 13.55 h. local time. The return flight will take off at 14.45 h. and land in Madrid at 17.40 h. local time.

The aircraft used on these routes will be Airbus A-319s and A-320s, which Iberia flies to short- and medium-haul destinations in Spain, the EU, and Africa. The modern airliners have the latest technological advances, and are noted for fuel efficiency, low noise, and better customer service.
