Non-stop Lufthansa Business Jet service to Pune
Lufthansa is further expanding its services to key Indian cities for business and leisure travellers alike. From 1 July 2008, Germany’s largest airline will launch a new route from Frankfurt to Pune in western India. In all comfort passengers will be able to reach Pune non-stop, six times a week in an Airbus A319 which has been refitted as a Business Jet. "The Lufthansa services are increasing in line with the ongoing, very dynamic economic development in India," said Dr. Karl-Rudolf Rupprecht, Senior Vice President Hub Management Frankfurt. "With seven non-stop destinations and 55 flights per week, Lufthansa remains the leading European airline in India. We have almost quadrupled our flights to India since 2001, when we operated 15 flights per week to three destinations."
Lufthansa will operate services to Pune as all-Business Class flights. The Airbus A319 has been refitted as a Business Jet and is operated by PrivatAir, a VIP and business aviation specialist. The aircraft has 48 modern lie-flat seats which, when fully reclined, provide an almost horizontal sleeping surface measuring two metres (6’6”) in length. Bigger seat pitches, more generous table-top areas, power ports for notebooks as well as a reading lamp that is integrated into the seat provide ideal conditions for business travellers to work during the flight. Thanks to the spacious layout of the cabin, passengers travel in an extremely quiet and relaxed atmosphere and can enjoy individualised inflight service.
TACA and Lufthansa ponder joint services
TACA and Lufthansa intend to cooperate closely in future under a memorandum of understanding signed by representatives of the two airlines. Their objective, among others, is to begin codesharing on national and international routes. With an eye on future cooperation, TACA and Lufthansa are also testing other benefits for their customers such as pooling frequent flyer programmes, closely coordinating their flight schedules and mutual lounge access.
“Future partnership with TACA will allow us to offer customers shortly an array of new destinations in Latin America and expand our global network,“ said Jens Bischof, Vice President The Americas Lufthansa. “Our passengers should be able to profit possibly this year from cooperation with the quality carrier, TACA,” added Götz Ahmelmann, Lufthansa Vice President Alliances, Strategy & Subsidiaries.
“TACA is immensely pleased at the prospect of cooperation with one of the world’s leading carriers like Lufthansa,“ observed Alex Benítez, TACA Vice President for Planning. “With the signing of this memorandum of understanding, we are committed to doing our utmost towards meeting the requirements of our customers and ensuring that better day-to-day service awaits them in future.” Daniel Ratti, TACA President for Peru, is confident “that we will be able to offer additional services and a range of new connections that will strengthen our position in commercial air traffic. TACA is showing that it is always in the vanguiard in the airline business.”
Lufthansa lays on daily flights ex Germany to Caracas, Mexico, Sao Paulo, Buenos Aires and Santiago de Chile (SWISS) in a total of 35 weekly connections between its domestic hubs and Latin American markets. With just one stopover and short connecting times, passengers from Latin America can fly to destinations across Europe, Asia, the Middle East and Africa. Worldwide, Lufthansa serves 192 destinations in 78 countries.
From three hubs (in El Salvador, Costa Rica and Peru), TACA operates flights in an extensive network to 35 destinations in 20 countries across the American continent. Its modern fleet is equipped with new-generation Airbus A319, A320 and A321 jets noted for technical innovation, efficiency and safety, and all configured with Business Class. Additionally, TACA operates cargo, courier and mail services. The airline recently opened a new hub in Lima, which has expanded capacity from 160 to 230 flights weekly. New First Class Lounge in Munich
A new dimension in travel is opening up at Lufthansa’s hub in Southern Germany. From 14 August, First Class customers and HON Circle members will be able to enjoy the exclusive atmosphere of a Lufthansa First Class Lounge at Munich Airport. As at Frankfurt, the First Class Lounge at Munich has a range of comfortable facilities and conveniences on offer. These include a gourmet restaurant, a bar area, a cigar lounge and luxury bathroom areas.
And there is a special service for premium customers at Munich: access to and from the lounge is possible via Level 4 (EU Departures), as well as via Level 5 (Non-EU Departures). As exclusive passport control and security checkpoints are located within the lounge, passengers – whether arriving or departing – can thus change levels directly. “The percentage of First Class passengers and HON Circle members has grown at a disproportionately high rate in recent years. We are confident that our new service offering will continue to boost this trend,” said Thomas Klühr, Group Representative and Head of Hub Management Munich.
The First Class Lounge extends over two levels and has a total area of 860 sq. metres. On the lower lounge level (Level 04), there is the lobby and the service area for the limousine transfer. If a flight is leaving from an apron position, passengers will be collected at the lounge and chauffeur driven direct to their aircraft.
On the upper level of the lounge (Level 05), passengers can relax or make effective use of their time until their flight departure. Separate workrooms provide an inviting environment for passengers to prepare for their next meeting. In the exclusive bathroom area, guests can unwind and freshen up before or after a long journey. The modern bathrooms are equipped with a shower or jacuzzi. Guests can also sit back and enjoy the comfort of the relaxing chairs.
In the First Class Lounge there is also an attractive bar area and an inviting restaurant, where LSG Sky Chefs cooks spoil guests with a range of culinary delicacies such as the sushi selection, which changes daily, regional organic produce and international specialities. The choice range of beverages also includes 43 vintage Armagnacs. Smokers can use the Cigar Lounge, where snacks and drinks are provided. Lufthansa staff look after the well-being of the guests and attend to their wishes throughout their stay in the lounge.
Before entering the lounge, First Class passengers and HON Circle members can take advantage of other service facilities. These include a valet parking service, separate check-in facilities and fast lanes at the central security checkpoints.
With the opening of the new First Class Lounge, Lufthansa customers will have a choice of five lounges at Munich with a total area of more than 3,700 sq. metres.
Lufthansa and Air Astana to enter a partnership
Lufthansa and Kazakhstan flag carrier Air Astana are planning a bilateral cooperation. A corresponding Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed today by representatives of both airlines. The objective of the partnership is to expand the flight offering for customers of both companies.
Peter Foster, President of Air Astana, and Götz Ahmelmann, Vice-President Alliances, Strategy and Subsidiaries of Lufthansa Passenger Airlines, signed the Memorandum of Under-standing in the Kazakhstan capital Astana this afternoon.
As of 2008, customers of both airlines can benefit from codeshare flights and mutually coordinated flight schedule as well as an extended offer of flights between Germany and Kazakhstan. In addition, Lufthansa passengers will enjoy better onward connections within Kazakhstan and Central Asia. For the passengers of Air Astana the cooperation intends to offer better connections to the worldwide Lufthansa network, in particular, to destinations within Europe, the USA and Canada.
Furthermore, the aim of this cooperation is to coordinate the frequent flyer programmes of both airlines, in order to facilitate the combined collection and redemption of miles. Miles & More members should already be able to collect miles on various Air Astana routes as of the end of October this year.
Lufthansa is the leading European airline in the Kazakhstan market with a daily flight to Almaty, the economic metropolis and former capital, twice weekly with an ongoing flight to Astana. Air Astana is the market leader in Kazakhstan and one of the fastest growing carriers in the CIS region.
Kazakhstan is the ninth largest country by landmass in the world and is characterized by its extensive natural resources and the high growth rate of its gross domestic product (2006: plus 10.6 percent). In total, around 400 German companies are represented in Kazakhstan.
Online check-in at Lufthansa now with seat selection
Lufthansa passengers can choose their seat now when checking in online via www.lufthansa.com. The choice is made easy by a graphic seat plan on the screen showing all the available seats during the online check-in process. Passengers simply select their seat on their home PC or at the office, and then print out their boarding pass. Another advantage for even more flexibility: The online check-in option is now available 23 hours prior to flight departure, allowing passengers to make sure in good time of obtaining their preferred seat in the aircraft cabin. It all makes check-in on the net that much more comfortable at www.lufthansa.com.
Meantime, after around ten months since their introduction, online boarding passes can now be obtained for flights on more than 350 Lufthansa routes. These include flights on all German domestic routes as well as those on most flights to European destinations. The online boarding pass is to become available on further European as well as on some longhaul routes in the course of the year.
Check-in at Lufthansa Quick check-in kiosks at airports is also quicker and easier, since passengers no longer require their Miles & More or credit card for identification. They simply enter their name and booking code on the screen and are immediately issued a boarding pass for their flight. Many of the customer-operated kiosks at Frankfurt, Munich, Hamburg and Dusseldorf are additionally equipped with a reader, enabling passengers to identify themselves alternatively with an ID or passport. Passengers with a boarding pass, printed online or at a Quick check-in kiosk, can go direct to security and from there straight to the gate. When travelling with hold baggage, they save time by handing it in at a fast and convenient Baggage Drop-Off counter.
Lufthansa is one of the first airlines, worldwide, to install barcode technology completely at its two domestic hubs Frankfurt and Munich. Passengers flying with an electronic ticket, etix, who have down-loaded their boarding pass from the Internet, or who are travelling with a conventional bar-coded boarding pass, can self-board quickly and independently at the gate in Frankfurt, Munich, Hamburg and Berlin-Tegel by utilising the Lufthansa Quick Boarding system.
Lufthansa is currently testing a unique innovation at Frankfurt Airport. With the new Baggage Home Service, passengers can hand in their luggage while still at home. A Lufthansa staff member simply calls at the passenger’s address and checks all the documents required for check-in before issuing a boarding pass and taking the baggage to the airport. Passengers can then travel relaxed to the airport on the day of their flight without the trouble of carting their baggage. At the airport, they proceed straight through to security and, if necessary, passport control at their departure gate.
Lufthansa Partnership with Air Malta
Lufthansa is expanding its involvement in Malta at various levels. Its MRO subsidiary, Lufthansa Technik, is planning to provide maintenance services for long-range Airbus aircraft in Malta. Meanwhile, as part of a bilateral cooperation, Lufthansa and Air Malta will operate codeshare flights on several routes and also recognise the respective partner's frequent flyer programme.
Lufthansa Technik will set up new maintenance and overhaul capabilities in Malta for C-Checks and D-Checks on the Airbus A330/A340 (including the A340-600). The Supervisory Board of Lufthansa Technik has approved a multi-million euro investment in the bay infrastructure, as well as in tooling and ground equipment. Under the terms of the Memorandum of Understanding signed by the Government of Malta and Lufthansa Technik Malta, a joint venture with Air Malta, the hangar facility will be constructed by Malta Industrial Parks Ltd. and leased to Lufthansa Technik Malta. Pending approval of a new collective agreement by the local trade unions, the facility is due to be up and running as early as 2008. This additional investment will be undertaken by Lufthansa Technik, which will thus increase its stake in Lufthansa Technik Malta.
The success of this project depends upon the availability of trained personnel. Lufthansa Technik Malta is currently sponsoring training more than 50 apprentices at the Malta College of Arts, Science and Technology, which is also investing in new courses to fulfil the growing demand from the industry.
"We must ensure that we have sufficient resources across our global network to meet the expected increase in demand for wide-body maintenance and overhaul services for Airbus A330 and A340 aircraft in the coming years," said Dr. Thomas Stüger, Chief Executive Product and Services, Lufthansa Technik AG. "Our decision today marks the beginning of a new era for Malta's aviation industry and we are looking forward to finalising our negotiations with our partners in Malta. With more than 500 additional employees, Lufthansa Technik Malta will also make a significant contribution to Malta's economic growth," he added.
Lufthansa Technik Malta was founded in 2002 and currently has 150 employees. A Centre of Excellence within the Lufthansa Technik Group, it focuses on C-Checks on short-range Boeing and Airbus aircraft.
Air Malta's flight from Malta to Munich tomorrow, 27 November 2006, also marks the launch of the partnership between Lufthansa and Air Malta. In accordance with the Memorandum of Understanding on bilateral cooperation signed by both airlines in February 2006, all 21 flights per week between Malta and Frankfurt and Munich will be operated on a codeshare basis with immediate effect. Both Lufthansa hubs will thus be connected to the EU's smallest member state by a daily nonstop flight. Moreover, members of the airlines' respective frequent flyer programmes can redeem miles on the partner's network.
Air Malta flies to 39 destinations in Europe, with particular emphasis on Germany, Italy and the UK. In Germany, in addition to Lufthansa's Frankfurt and Munich hubs, it serves Düsseldorf, Berlin, Hamburg and Cologne-Bonn. Air Malta offers a total of 25 flights per week between the Mediterranean archipelago and Germany, 14 of them to Frankfurt and Munich.
Lufthansa has been flying to Malta for more than 20 years. It currently operates a daily Airbus A321 service to the island.
Lufthansa Private Jet from success to success
Lufthansa Private Jet, the exclusive top-end service for individual and flexible air travel, has written another chapter in its success story. In 2006, the number of flights operated in this segment rose by 13 per cent. Up to ten private aircraft were booked daily during the year. The highest demand accounting for about 60 per cent of the total came from point-to-point connections to around 1,000 destinations in Europe and the Russian Federation. But the number of private jet flights offered in combination with long-haul services through the Frankfurt, Munich and Zurich hubs has also increased significantly since mid-2006. Customer satisfaction scoring over 90 per cent shows how positively customers are responding to the Lufthansa Private Jet service. "We are delighted that our innovative product has become so firmly established in the market so soon after its launch. Lufthansa Private Jet, offering customers à la carte mobility, has meantime become a firm fixture in our full-service strategy," observed Thierry Antinori, Executive Vice President Marketing and Sales at Lufthansa Passenger Airlines. "Our customers appreciate especially the opportunity of enjoying the exclusive Lufthansa First-Class amenities on the Private Jet service and making their journey even more comfortable."
The accord with NetJets is consequently being extended for a further five-year term and cooperation intensified with the private jet provider. From now on, more jets will be on call, daily, in order to accommodate increased demand for the Lufthansa Private Jet service. In future, the Falcon 2000, which seats up to ten passengers in comfort, will also be available to customers daily.

Fanflug – the online sports portal with an integrated booking function
No matter whether they are travelling to watch Bayern Munich, the German national football team, the Tour de France, or tennis at Wimbledon, Lufthansa takes fans to sports highlights around the world. As the “Official Carrier” Lufthansa is also supporting a forthcoming major sports event in Germany – the 2007 World Handball Championship. With this in mind, the airline has revamped its Internet offer for all sports enthusiasts and installed several new functions on its website www.lufthansa.com/fanflug.
The main feature is an online fan calendar that presents the key sporting events worldwide and is directly linked to the Lufthansa booking mask. Fans can, for example, call up all available flights to the sports event of their choice and then make an online booking. The portal lists the most important events relating to football, Formula 1, tennis and many other sports. It also includes the latest news and information about major events, such as the 2007 World Handball Championship, as well as tips and competitions. Users can customise the web page to suit their individual requirements and select their favourite sports. A newsletter and the desktop ticker provide the latest results and information and ensure that fans are kept up-to-date on their favourite club.
Lufthansa expands services to the USA
Next summer Lufthansa passengers will have a wider choice of flights to the United States. Additional daily nonstop flights to Denver and Detroit will be offered to supplement Lufthansa’s already extensive route network in North America. “The increase in our services to Denver and Detroit will enable us to offer our customers two flights a day, at different times, to these popular destinations,” explains Dr. Holger Hätty, member of the Airline Board, Lufthansa German Airlines. “This will give passengers much greater flexibility when combining flights. For business travellers, this will mean big time savings.” By linking its key destinations in North America to both its Frankfurt and Munich hubs, Lufthansa can offer its customers 29 routes to 19 destinations in the USA and Canada, and thus operates the largest route network from Europe to North America.
For the first time, Lufthansa will fly nonstop from Munich to Denver, making it the tenth North American destination to be served from its hub in southern Germany. From 31 March 2007, flights to Denver will be operated daily from Munich as well as from Frankfurt. From Denver, the hub of Star Alliance partner United Airlines and one of the most modern and user-friendly airports in America, Lufthansa passengers can fly to about 100 destinations throughout North America. Munich-Denver is the latest new route to be included in the 2007 summer timetable following Lufthansa’s recent decision to launch services to Seoul and Busan in South Korea from its southern hub.
Denver, which has been the capital of the State of Colorado since 1876, is the eastern gateway to the Rocky Mountains. Today it has a population of half a million and is one of the most attractive cities in America. It is a traditional mining base and also the headquarters of major telecommunications companies. Other industries are energy and logistics. Thanks to its location at the foot of the Rockies, Denver is not only a popular destination for sports and nature enthusiasts but also boasts many cultural attractions that make the city well worth a visit.
From 25 March 2007, Lufthansa will add a second daily flight on its Frankfurt-Detroit route, thus giving passengers greater choice and flexibility. The departure and arrival times of the new service will complement the existing flight to Detroit and provide convenient, time-saving connections for business travellers. From next summer, passengers will be able to fly Lufthansa to Detroit, arriving at 13:25 hrs, and fly back to Frankfurt the same day at 21:55 hrs. The new route will be operated by an Airbus A330-300 in a three-class configuration.
The Detroit region is a centre of the automotive industry and home to major car manufacturers and suppliers. The North American International Auto Show, which is held here once a year, is one of the most highly rated trade fairs in the industry alongside the Frankfurt Motor Show. Detroit, Michigan, with a population of just under one million, also maintains strong trade links with Germany. More than 200 German companies have branches in Detroit.
Round-trip fares from Munich to Denver start at 659 euros, while the equivalent fare from Frankfurt to Detroit can be booked for as little as 571 euros. The fares quoted apply to flights in Economy Class and include all taxes and charges plus the Lufthansa Ticket Service Charge of 15 euros for flights booked online at www.lufthansa.com. Miles & More members can also collect miles on these routes. More information is available on our website. Reservations can be made online or via the Lufthansa Call Center on 0180 – LUFTHANSA“ (0180 5 83 84 26), Lufthansa travel agency partners or Lufthansa sales counters at airports.
Lufthansa exclusive new first class lounge planned in Munich
In future, Lufthansa will be making travel from Munich even more comfortable. First class passengers and HON Circle members will be able to enjoy the exclusive atmosphere of a Lufthansa first class lounge starting in late summer 2007.
A gourmet restaurant, a comfort and bar area, a work and resting room, a cigar lounge, and a bathing area will be among the features offered in terminal 2. The new lounge will extend to two floors for a total of 860 square metres and can thus be reached from both level 4 (EU departures) as well level 5 (non-EU departures).
Exclusive passport and security checkpoints make it possible to change levels directly and to get to the entrance and exit for all departures. This will be replacing the first class area that was opened in the summer of 2005 and which along with valet parking and a limousine service is already making the time at the Munich Airport more pleasant for first class passengers and HON Circle members.
There are another four lounges available to you in Munich with a total area of 3,000 square metres. There is also more room for the guests of the Senator lounge now on level 4: Here the bistro area was expanded and more space was also created. Further spacious expansions are planned for the Senator and Business lounges in the coming years.
Lufthansa and Turkish Airlines expand codeshare to Munich
Having successfully launched their first codeshare flights on March 25, Lufthansa and Turkish Airlines now enter the second phase of their cooperation. This will include new codeshare flights starting from May 3rd. Flights operated in codeshare will be Munich-Istanbul (Lufthansa and Turkish Airlines), Munich-Ankara (Lufthansa and Turkish Airlines) and Munich-Izmir (Lufthansa). Frankfurt operated routes already started end of March. Today’s flight from Istanbul to Munich marks the arrival of Turkish Airlines into Terminal 2, a Joint Venture between Lufthansa and Munich Airport. The passengers of both airlines will now benefit from an increased number of flights, destinations and from better connections to Europe, the US and Canada.
Effective winter schedule 2007/2008, Turkish Airlines will be adding its code on more routes such as Atlanta, Boston, Dallas, Denver, Detroit, Houston, Los Angeles, Miami, Philadelphia, Portland, San Francisco, Washington and Charlotte. Lufthansa will add its code on Turkish Airlines operated flights to the Middle East, CIS and Turkish domestic destinations.
Members of both carriers’ Frequent Flyer Programs will be able to collect miles on the Lufthansa and Turkish Airlines networks and also redeem them with the partner carrier. Therefore, both Miles & More and Miles & Smiles members will be able to benefit from the advantages of a wider range of flights.
Lufthansa and Turkish Airlines agree to cooperate
As early as next summer, Lufthansa and Turkish Airlines passengers will reap the benefits of bilateral cooperation between the two airlines. The cooperation agreement was signed today in Istanbul by Lufthansa Chairman and CEO Wolfgang Mayrhuber and Candan Karlitekin, Chairman of Turkish Airlines, following the announcement of Turkish Airline’s accession to Star Alliance.
With the introduction of the 2007 summer timetable on 25 March, Lufthansa and Turkish Airlines will operate selected flights between the two countries on a codeshare basis and harmonise their flight schedules. For passengers, this will mean more frequencies, a wider choice of destinations and better connections at Lufthansa’s Frankfurt and Munich hubs, as well as at Istanbul. Participants in each airline’s frequent flyer programmes can collect miles on the Lufthansa and Turkish Airlines networks and also redeem them with the partner carrier.
In the current winter timetable, Lufthansa offers flights to 183 destinations in 78 countries. Together, Lufthansa and the other Star Alliance member airlines provide connections to 841 destinations in 157 countries. Thanks to the new codeshare agreement with Turkish Airlines, Lufthansa passengers will be able to choose from a further 27 destinations in Turkey and the Middle East. Passengers from Turkey will have a much wider choice of flights from Turkey to Western Europe, the United States and Canada.

On request, passengers will be picked up at home and driven direct to their Private Jet flight at the airport. On landing, a limousine will again be waiting alongside the plane to whisk passengers without delay to their destination. The service is available both for customers on direct flights to around 1,000 destinations within Europe and the Russian Federation as well as for those on Private-Jet connecting flights after flying long-haul routes with Lufthansa or SWISS.
