About Qantas
Founder oneworld® member Qantas is among the world's leading long distance airlines and one of Australia's strongest brands. It was originally formed in 1920 as Queensland and Northern Territory Aerial Services, and claims to be the world's second oldest airline.
In May 2004, Qantas launched a low-cost domestic carrier, Jetstar and a Singapore-based counterpart JetStar Asia. Qantas also holds a 46.3 per cent stake in Air Pacific. None of these carriers are affiliated to oneworld.
With its main base in Sydney, together with its regional affiliates, operating as QantasLink, it offers an unparalleled network in its home continent, serving some 60 Australian airports. Add its international destinations and it serves more than 85 destinations in 40 countries, in Asia/Pacific, Europe, North America and Africa.
Qantas has an extensive "joint services agreement" with fellow oneworld founder member British Airways, a wide-ranging commercial agreement with American Airlines and code-shares also with Cathay Pacific, Finnair and LAN. Beyond oneworld, it has commercial links with Aircalin, Air France, Air Malta, Air Niugini, Air Pacific, Air Tahiti Nui, Air Vanuatu, Alaska, Asiana, America West, China Eastern, EVA Air, Gulf Air, Japan Airlines, Norfolk Jet Express, Polynesian, South African and Vietnam.
